With a childhood defined by his fascination with vintage cartoons and hip-hop CDs, Steven Mollett, otherwise known as Stounson, always knew he wanted to be an artist.

Raised in a working-class home in Yakima, WA, Stounson’s love of hip-hop and a DIY attitude led him to producing, writing, and recording his own music by the time he hit high school. Spending years refining his craft, Stounson's equally laid back and unorthodox approach to rapping is influenced by artists like The Cool Kids, MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah, and many more. Always drawing inspiration from the past, Stounson's production is lush with vintage synthesizers and warm, timeworn drums. The unorthodox songwriting and vibrant production in Stounson’s music is mirrored equally in his neo-expressionism and pop art paintings.

As a painter and visual artist, Stounson's work is influenced by the likes of Keith Haring, James Ensor, Jean-Michel Basquiat to name a few. His distinctive use of symbols like skulls, X's, bones, and crosses help him to delve into liminal spaces, often centering influential personalities from his life or popular culture in his paintings. In 2019, his work was featured in the Yakima, WA 'Windows Alive' series. Collaborating closely with Toronto-based hip-hop artist Raz Fresco, Stounson has crafted multiple album covers over the years for the MC, garnering attention from esteemed platforms such as Complex and various media outlets.

Stounson's latest EP, 'The Lost Works of Pytheas', is out now on all digital streaming platforms.
